The new LiveMinutes is coming!

LiveMinutes’ new Workspaces version is almost here! We’ve been working hard in the past couple months on the most important product update since our launch. And it’s time to tell you about it.

So, what’s different now?

As a matter of fact, there’s been quite a few changes. The most important one is that we’re shifting from a meetings paradigm to workspaces.

When you work with other people, you often have emails and files flying arounds. When you add decisions made in conference calls, scattered IM comments, conflicting file revisions, and people in different time zones, things can get pretty confusing.

Instead of creating new meetings for each interaction with your team, the new LiveMinutes lets you keep all your team work in shared workspaces, where you can add and review content, take notes, and of course host conference calls. Get notified when a teammate makes a comment or needs your feedback, and stay easily on top of things.

LiveMinutes brings the best of web-conferencing and collaboration together. But that’s not the only thing that’s new… The new LiveMinutes is now in full HTML 5, meaning that you can use it from your iPad or any other device. We’ve also made the app much quicker to load, so you won’t ever have to wait for a meeting space to open again ! The interface has also been fully redesigned to make collaborating more intuitive and enjoyable than ever.

The new LiveMinutes is currently in alpha, meaning we’re still in development and are only letting in a limited amount of people to try it out. If you would like early access, drop us a mail at alpha@liveminutes.com and tell how you would use the new LiveMinutes!

We will be communicating on a beta release date in the upcoming days…

So stay tuned.

Your comments saved back to PowerPoint

We know you love collaborating on presentations. But wouldn’t it be great if those comments were also saved directly to your original PowerPoint presentation?LiveMinutes now does this automatically : you can download your original PowerPoint with comments from your report page or from your meeting room directly.

Collaborating on a PowerPoint has never been that simple !

Joining Calls in a second

If you’ve joined a meeting in the past few days, you might have noticed that it’s much easier to join calls. You’ll never have to explain to your guests how to join a call again (and we’re sure you’ll appreciate it).

File upload made blazing fast

LiveMinutes now offers much faster file upload during meetings. This makes it much more convenient to exchange and comment on files. Now, anyone can share a document and start discussing it in a matter of seconds… and it makes a big difference!

Check out LiveMinutes redesign

Hello,

Brand new year, brand new LiveMinutes: we just rolled our biggest redesign of the application yet ! Time to tell you more about this brand new interface and what’s running under the hood !

Chat before and after meetings

LiveMinutes now lets you chat from your meetings and reports pages. This makes it way simpler to connect with meeting participants just before a meeting – for example when you want to make sure everyone received the invite and will be able to make it on time.

Simply invite people to your contacts and wait for them to accept your invitation to chat with them. You can even drag and drop contacts to chats to create group chats!

Better, Faster, Stronger…

We completely redesigned the way we display meetings and reports. You can now see in a glance who planned a meeting, who’s invited, the call number etc. We also entirely rethought the way reports are listed.

You can now preview the content and meeting thumbnails without opening the report, making it way easier to quickly spot meetings reports – without having to open them. And it’s all blazing fast !

Download your meeting content

You can now download all your meeting material directly from the reports page. Notes are downloadable as text files, sketches are downloadable as images, and you can download any original file that was uploaded during a meeting…

We hope you’ll love the brand new LiveMinutes ! Please reach out to us to tell us what you think !

Enjoy your meetings!

The technology behind our collaborative text editor

If you are a LiveMinutes user, you have probably noticed than LiveMinutes works pretty well with Evernote. Many of you have asked how that works, and how you could integrate this feature into your service/product. Today we will tell you a little more about our technology.

One of the preferred and most differentiated feature of LiveMinutes is the ability to take notes collaboratively, in realtime, during the meeting. Our users leverage this feature to work on to-do-lists or meeting agendas, but also review and edit text documents, or computer code. Additionally, thanks to the Evernote integration, Evernote users can edit their notes together, at the same time, by connecting their account to LiveMinutes.

LiveMinutes’ shared text editor is beautiful and blazing fast, but also quite unique: no other meeting application lets users take notes collaboratively. Think about it, the first thing you do in meetings is take notes, right? Despite this, no other meeting app, Webex, GoToMeeting, Adobe Connect, Fuze, Join.me, or goInstant, lets you take notes together… Even Evernote, which primary focus is note taking and sharing, does not let their users type at the same time in the same note.

Here’s why:

In computer science, allowing several people to modify simultaneously the same text is a hard problem to solve. Very hard. So hard that Google acquired one of the only company that had figured out how to do it properly, Etherpad. Google has used Etherpad as a basis for building Google Docs, which is now the ubiquitous mean for collaborative text editing.  No other collaboration player has been able to come up with its own technology to fulfill the very basic need of taking notes together.

Well – and we are going to boast little here :-) – that was until we launched our own technology. For the techies, we have developed our own algorithm, which does not rely on Operational Transform (OT). We solve the problem on the client side while OT is server side, allowing for better performance, and the performance gap increases with the number of simultaneous editors. For the non techies, just know that our editor is blazing fast, and unlike screen sharing, it lets you takes notes in the the meeting with other participants.

Taking notes together is the keystone of collaborative meetings. You get in the meeting, upload some content (design, slides), and once you start discussing, you make decisions on what to do next. So you start writing notes and to-do lists with your peers. And since LiveMinutes stores everything, your notes and todo lists are automatically saved to your downloadable meeting report. So you can keep track of your work. And if you connected your Evernote account, we save your report to Evernote as well.

So what’s next? well, we have some great improvements coming up: better integration with Evernote, rich-text features, computer code highlighting, integration with to-do apps… This is where we would love to hear from you. Tell us what you need the most, and help us build the best real-time collaboration app!

LiveMinutes introduces fullscreen video calls

Hello,

We’re very excited to announce the release of two much awaited, awesome new features : fullscreen video calls and panel reordering !

Fullscreen video calls

You can now switch participant videos to fullscreen when running a meeting. This is great when you want to show something with your webcam or when you’re not working on visuals.Switching fullscreen on and off will only affect your view (not everyone else’s), so you can be in fullscreen mode while others are not.

Panel reordering

You can now – finally ;)reorder your panels by dragging and dropping themto a new position. It’s a great way to tidy up and rearrange your meeting space before you close your meeting and generate the report !Reordering panels affects everyone : reordering panels on your screen will reorder panels for everyone else as well.

Enjoy your meetings!

Discover “Follow” : LiveMinutes’ new collaboration mode

Hello,

We very excited to announce the release of a great new collaboration feature : Follow.

What’s Follow ?

In a presentation, it is important that all participants stay on the same screen. But LiveMinutes is also about team collaboration. And in a team meeting, sometimes participants need to go to different screens or slides to work on different parts of the meeting space.

By default, all users in a LiveMinutes meeting see the same thing. Everyone is automatically on the same of page of a document, or on the same notepad or sketchpad. Scrolling or zooming does not affect others, but changing a page or switching from a document to another affects everyone.

But now, thanks to Follow, you can turn on and off this synchronization and roam around on your own in the meeting room, which means you can be working on a sketch while someone else is adding comments to a document !

How does Follow work ?

Follow is not activated by default.

To activate follow, click on the settings button on the bottom left of the meeting tool. Then, click on “Advanced Sync” to enable Follow.

A new button will appear on the top right. This button will let you toggle on or off your follow status.

‘Follow On’ means you are attached to the meeting’ common Stream. ‘Follow Off’ means you’re doing your own thing. If you are following the common stream, you are affecting other following participants’ views, and they are affecting yours. If you have Follow Off, then you can switch views without affecting others, and their actions won’t switch your view.

So get the collaboration On!

Enjoy your meetings!
